"Many of life's failures are people who did not realise how close they were to success when they gave up"   Thomas Edison

What is Self Protection?

Self Protection training is an essential area often overlooked in martial arts circles.  Of course just practicing a martial art will give you an excellent fighting ability, so is that all that's needed?

Well... yes and no!

From a purely combative sense then yes, a martial art such as Wing Chun will give you the tools to diffuse a street encounter, however, do you really want to be going to that extreme?

What we term as Self Protection is the skills needed to avoid the fight in the first place and to try and de-escalate the situation before commiting to what should be the last resort i.e. a fight.

The skills covered are as follows:

  • Awareness - How to tell when trouble is brewing, how to avoid these situations and how to be become less of an 'easy target'.
  • Distancing - How to maintain a safe distance from the threat.
  • Posturing - How to psychologically put your aggresssor in a more vulnerable state of mind.
  • Line ups - How to put yourself in an advantageous position should the threat contninue to escalate and how to 'set them up' for your own counter.
  • Pre-Emptive Strikes - How to hit hard, fast and first.
  • Grappling - The last resort!  How to get yourself back on your feet and in a dominant position should the fight go to the ground.
